Short description: The most important Stone Age site in East Tyrol is located at the Hirschbichl near St. Jakob in Defereggen, about 2100 m above sea level. More than 1000 silices testify to the early use of the high alpine area, whereby it can be assumed that people went to these high altitudes primarily for hunting purposes. Based on the typological classification of the flint artefacts, the site can be assigned to the older Mesolithic Sauvetterien period (7th or 6th millenium BC).
